Lot 64		1809 C-4 R2 Large 0 over Small 0 VF30+. Five points sharper but there is a very shallow low spot in the field before the face and another over HALF, both caused by debris on the die (as struck). Otherwise the only defects are trivial microscopic contact marks that are visible only under magnification. Glossy medium chocolate brown and steel. E-MDS, Manley state 1.0. The obverse details suggest a slightly higher grade but the right edge of the reverse is a bit softly struck, although the legends remain complete. Lot 69		1811 C-1 R4 F15. 4-Star Obverse Cud. Frosty medium chocolate brown and steel. No notable marks; a tiny pinprick on a dentil over star 7 is the best identifying mark. LDS, Manley state 5.0, with a large, strong rim cud that connects the first 4 stars to the rim. The opposing legend at ITED-S is necessarily weak (as always in this die state) thanks to the cud consuming so much of the planchet metal. A dramatic die state of a tough date. Lot 72		1825 C-1 R3 EF45. Rotated Reverse. Five points sharper but there are a few small spots of microscopic roughness well hidden on the reverse, particularly between the H in HALF and the leaf to the left and near the dentil tips over MER. Otherwise the surfaces are choice in every respect. Glossy light to medium chocolate brown blending to olive brown in protected areas. Very sharply struck MDS Manley state 2.0, with the reverse rotated 150 degrees clockwise. The curious notch sometimes found on the edge of this variety is present at star 13. Lot 77		1828 C-2 R1 12-Star Obverse NGC graded MS64 Brown. Lustrous medium steel brown with a wisp of darker steel brown toning at ICA in AMERICA. The surfaces are mostly quite nice but there are specks of verdigris or other crud between the date and star 13 with more around the legend outside the wreath. The only notable sign of contact is a shallow nick over the T in LIBERTY. MDS, Manley state 2.0. Our grade is MS60 net AU55 for the specks of verdigris (which may be removable). Lot 84		1833 C-1 R1 MS60+. Very attractive glossy medium chocolate brown with smooth, prooflike fields on both sides. Essentially flawless; a microscopic tick on the rim under the second 3 is the best identifying mark. MDS, Manley state 2.0, showing sharp die clashmarks on both sides. The dies were freshly lapped giving this piece a prooflike appearance. This piece was once cataloged as a proof strike, and it comes with a provenance that contains several prominent collectors. Lot 88		1837 Half Cent Hard Times Token Low-49 Rulau HT-73 Rarity-2 PCGS graded MS63 Brown. Very attractive frosty medium brown and light chocolate. Sharply struck and void of any defects. Just a hint of rub on the highest points from mint state. A beautiful example of the only half cent denomination that is part of the popular "Hard Times" token series. Our grade is AU58+, very close to MS60. The attribution is shown on the PCGS label. Often included in collections of our Federal half cent series since no half cents were struck in 1837. Lot 89		1837 Half Cent Hard Times Token Low-49 Rulau HT-73 R2 VF35. Glossy light olive and chocolate brown. Smooth and attractive for the grade. These are often collected with the regular Federal half cent series since they are the same size as a Federal Half Cent, because they are the only half cent denomination in the Hard Times series, and because the mint didn't strike any half cents dated in this year.
